Mind/Body Connection: The Energetic Aspect
July 29, 2016
Did you know that energy flows throughout your body through channels that directly connect your mind and your body? The human body naturally contains channels where “chi” flows. These channels were first mapped by ancient practitioners, which is now known as Traditional Chinese Medicine. These channels are part of the meridian system, which essentially circulates energy throughout your body and soul. Through these meridians, all of your tissues and organs are connected to one another through energy. The proper balance of energy throughout the body is critical to the health of your body and soul. As your holistic dentist in Southlake, we’re here to help you understand the mind and body connection within your body.
The Meridian System
Most people are unable to see “chi” flow through the body, however, most can feel it. When the channels are all working correctly, you feel a sense of elation, but when they become unbalanced, you often feel very negative chi. There are 12 main meridians in the body, with each one associated to one of the five elements to connect to the chi organs of the body. The 12 meridians include:
- Lungs
- Large Intestine
- Stomach
- Spleen
- Heart
- Small Intestine
- Bladder
- Kidney
- Heart Governor
- Triple Heater
- Gall Bladder
- Liver
According to ancient practice, these channels are responsible for transporting the Qi and blood in the body, which is used as a yin and yang scenario to nourish the body with balanced chi.
Meridians respond to stimulation, which aids with the transmission of information throughout the body. As a result, they are able to produce healing energy physically and physiological for overall wellbeing. With the right stimulation, the energy functions remain regulated to allow the body to function in harmony. However, these channels can become blocked, causing the flow of energy to become interrupted. Once the flow is disturbed, the healing ability of the organs and tissues will decrease. In addition, lack of proper chi flow can lead to a lack of energy from the brain not receiving proper electricity. As a result, the organs will not be properly nourished and disease can develop. Further complications can develop with the muscles, circulation, and various other problems.
To rebalance the correct flow of energy, acupuncture is often used to restore the body’s ability to function correctly.
